Tucked away off of the main stretch of Worship St in Shoreditch lies Hakkasan Group’s fine dining restaurant HKK offering decadent tastes from around China for lunch and dinner. As of the 26 of January, HKK has been celebrating the Chinese New Year with a culinary journey tasting menu from each of the eight provinces. There is an eight and 10-course menu, both offering a vegetarian menu as an option to the main courses, both equally richly delicious. With ancient culinary techniques as old as the China itself, Head Chef Tong Chee Hwee carefully crafted representative courses for each of the eight culinary traditions from the provinces.
Together, the unique blends of flavor appeal to the full range of your taste buds and require the utmost attention to fully appreciate the flavors presented to you, as some quite literally explode in your mouth (i.e. the dark chocolate dumpling dessert infused with ginger and yuzo). Though the portions may seem small when they first arrive, be sure not to underestimate the amount of food you are about to inject. In fact, skipping a meal beforehand is suggested you will barely be able to finish your plate by the end of the tasting. Prepare to taste the best dim sum you’ve had this far West of China and savor every bite of the Cherry wood roasted pecking duck /crispy bean curd roll with black truffle- by far, the most incredibly flavorful and exciting dish. Be sure to catch the New Year menu before it terminates on the 28 of February, your taste buds will surely be thanking you by the end.
