Tell us about your Music? What was the inspiration behind your name?
Well Damien Ike is my middle name. Ike is a shorten version of it (Ikechukwu). My parents are Igbo Nigerians it translates to God’s Power. It just sounded like a more powerful name. I would describe my music as pop/alternative – it’s dark and big, I like the feeling of being overwhelmed, it’s like that feeling you get when you stand on the edge of a cliff. – I want people to feel like that when they listen to my music.
Tell us about your new video.
I love the video, I decided not to be in the video. I wanted it to be more about the music and not be a distraction to the song. The actors were amazing and the Director Andrew Morgan and his team Repeat Repeat production did an amazing job.
What is “Kingdom Come” about?
Kingdom Come is about being whole again. Sometimes in life we become our jobs, our relationships, our careers, and we lose the brighter side of our personalities. We get stuck in ruts and force ourselves to conform to what people think is us. The message is simple I think it’s that no one will ever know you better than you know yourself. And it’s OK to be you – the real you
How would you describe your creative processes?
Lyrics are super important to me. I always start there. I always have a song title ready before I even know what the chorus is going to be. It’s an intense process. It’s a battle for me, you want to be honest and real but you want keep some level of privacy.
How would you describe the music scene in Shoreditch/East London?
Amazing – we have some of the best venues in London for upcoming acts – RichMix, Rough Trade, 93 Feet East, Birthdays, Underbelly – the list goes on. Hackney Empire!!!!!
Who are you listen to at the moment.
I love Raleigh Ritchie, Kwabs is sick. I really like Josef Salvat. I’m a big Coldplay fan. Love Adele and Kanye West is a Genius
What do you love the most about Shoreditch?
I love Shoreditch. I’ve lived here all my life. There is no place better than home. If I had to choose – I would say the Bagel shop in Brick Lane.
