The Abandoned Village

When talking of villages that have been abandoned, it often conjures up images of ruin and despair, but this archipelago found at the mouth of China’s Yangtze river evokes quite the opposite reaction. The islands of Shengsi were originally home to a flourishing fishing village, however after its population uprooted and gradually became extinct, mother nature took over. We’re not just talking about a few weeds here and there, but almost entire coverage with ivy and vine. This revert to pre-human existence is a strange move for our modern day; we so often think of China as being one of the most advanced countries in the world, yet these little havens of natural beauty reassure us that beautiful sights like this still exist, and have not been swallowed up by our ever changing environment. Check out these photographs by creative photographer, Tang Yuhong, and get lost in this mysterious green escape.
