Street art is often understated in the art world. But in fact, it provides a lot of insight into a culture sometimes even more so than traditional art. Photographer Martha Cooper has been documenting street art since the popularity of graffitti art rose in the 70s and 80s. Cooper is greatly invested in these pieces and believes that despite the lack of funding, street artists are some of the greatest in the world. She hopes to raise awareness of what they are doing to promote more of this type of work.
