Spencer Merolla makes art from dead loved ones hair

Grief causes a certain anguish that erupts after the association of wearing clothes from passed on loved ones.

After the loss of her mother, artist Spencer Merolla wanted to explore the experience she had with her black clothing worn at her mother’s funeral and how others who have experienced grief felt similarly. She created a series of works titled After a Fashion using materials such as hair and clothing to create paneled objects. She found that by using materials from her loved ones she was able to find meaning in wanting to hold on to those who passed away but also search for their presence in a life that was lost.

Take a look at some of her works!
