Embroidery might seem like an antiquated art, but Michelle Kingdom proves that notion wrong. She uses thread to sew her inner voice and analyze her relationships, domesticity and self-perception. With images of women usually performing some sort of house work or lounging in a natural space, she speaks to the power of women and their importance to society. Embroidery requires a lot of time and thought, making each stitch more meaningful than the last. Each piece is meant to honor the needlework tradition but also question its importance, similar to how she feels about herself.
