Mauricio Paz Viola’s distinctive style in abstract expressionism

Mauricio Paz Viola started his artistic journey when he was young with plastic art that was focused in portraits and landscape. Since Uruguayan-born artist moved to Chile back in 2008, his work has focused in abstract expressionism. One of his conceptual pieces ‘Nothing in the Void’ works with the idea that a majority of artworks, especially abstract, doesn’t hold a clear guide for the audience. Mauricio Paz Viola created a collection of stories connecting to his own world of dreams and art pieces to help guide his viewers. He is interested in how color can create specific sensations for the viewer and cause certain moods. This is examined in the series. Another one of his popular series involves the use of watercolor. His watercolor series called ‘Sublime Trees’ allows for the artist to connect to the pure essence of his creative self. Paz Viola is able to capture scenic areas that are described as “the sublime in everyday life.”  Each image bends the ideas of nature adding exquisite details and making the scenes interesting and breathtaking to take in. Currently, Mauricio Paz Viola is working on a new series called ‘Cosmic Filiigrees.’
