Tell us about Make’hai, what did inspire you to start it?
We are three friends which we come from a little town outside Naples (Italy), we found our self in London after so many years and we have always been working in hospitality, our dream was to open a place in London where we can cook the food that our grandmothers use to cook for us.
What is innovative / unique about the restaurant?
The difference between us and other Italian restaurants is that we combine classic southern Italian dishes and innovative ones all together in a large selection of tapas, but also, we do bigger dishes, sides, cured meats and cheese selections and fresh cheeses like mozzarella and burrata. With a nice selection of Cocktails, wines, and Italian craft beers, all enjoyable in a nice modern venue.
How do you select the menu for the restaurant?
We just want to give people the opportunity to taste real Italian food without any restriction with a large range of products and ingredients, thanks to the experience of my two partners which are the Chefs, we make this happen by selecting all the food and the ingredients that we love.
What is your signature dish that everyone has to try?
There are more than one for sure, but let’ s say that is the Parmigiana: Golden oven baked aubergines with tomato sauce, fresh basil, provola and parmesan cheese. It’ s a classic that everyone has to try.
Why did you choose East London for the new restaurant?
I been working in East London for three years of my life and I really love the area, we thought that Stoke Newington can be a good place to be.
What would you say has been the most memorable experience while developing this business?
The fact that first day we opened everything went well after four months of problems that we had to open the place and that the people start to love the menu and our dishes and the concept straight away and also there is nothing better to work and realize your dream with your best friends.
What are your future plans?
Keep working on quality as we do, look after our customer as we already do, build a good name reputation and why not maybe open another restaurant.
