WWF’s Team Panda has just claimed its first Guinness World record with Laurence Morgan running the fastest marathon time in the world in a full body animal costume. Laurence broke the world record with a time of 3 hours, 16 minutes and 27 seconds at this weekend’s Virgin Money London Marathon for WWF’s Team Panda, dressed as a giraffe.
Speaking of his record-breaking run, Laurence said: “It was absolutely fantastic running through the crowds of the London Marathon. Even though it was so hot in the costume, the atmosphere carried me through. The Guinness World Record is a bonus and will hopefully raise the profile of WWF and the vital conservation work they do. I am very proud to run for WWF’s team Panda and am delighted that my time has broken the Guinness World Record for the fastest marathon in a full-body animal costume.”
Laurence, an accountant living in Blackheath, London, had completed only one marathon prior to London, making the achievement all the more impressive. He has raised nearly £3,000 for WWF so far and is hoping his efforts inspire others to donate too.
Guinness World Records have confirmed that 40 official Guinness World Records titles were broken at this year’s Virgin Money London Marathon, from 73 listed attempts.
