Based on the story of Dionysus, God of Wine and Merriment, Divine Proportions is an immersive dining experience that blurs the line between feast and fetish. Taking place in The Vaults from this September, the ancient Greek myth will be used as a starting point for a free-form exploration of female beauty and sensuality, personal freedom, expression of gender fluidity and sexual desire. Divine Proportions is a reimagining of the Bacchic rites – an indulgent night of eating, drinking and wild dancing. Follow Dionysus and their Priestesses into a world of eternal ecstasy in this life and the next.
Divine Proportions is produced by the female-led Shotgun Carousel, one of London’s most exciting production companies. The multi-disciplinary performance collective is renowned for working down to the finest detail in their character, creature, costume and set design. With immersive theatre expert Samuel Wyer in charge of set and costume design and Pecs: The Drag King Collective founder Celine Lowenthaldirecting, Divine Proportions promises to be an evening fit for Gods and Goddesses.
Upon entering, guests will be greeted by Dionysus’ cult followers and invited to indulge in Bacchic Rites. Guests will be encouraged to indulge in the smells, tastes and textures of visceral foodstuff. The bacchanals will then be asked to make a sacrifice, with a reward for those brave enough to do so.
Looking ahead to September, Laura Drake Chambers, Founder and Creative Director of Shotgun Carousel and Creative Producer of Divine Proportions, said: “The world of Divine Proportions is the inclusive utopia I dream of, and whilst that world remains mythological, we’ll keep working our butts off to bring our dreamworld to life. It’s raunchy, sexy, unapologetically loud and if our audiences have as much fun experiencing this show as we’ve had creating it, we’ll have done Dionysus proud”.
