Antonella Pacifico was born and raised in Italy, listening to bands like Tears for Fears, Genesis, Pink Floyd, Airplane, Emerson Lake & Palmer. Antonella would go on to play in a grunge and post-rock band, before her move to Copenhagen, where she would focus on her solo music. The musician is self-taught, her music is a euphoric and relaxing experience on the listener’s ear, transporting your mind to an idyllic world, where everything is rosy and breezy. She cites influences from Tycho, Moby, John Hopkins, The Chemical Brothers, Massive Attack and Flume in her music. We find out more about the euphoric mind transporter in our interview below.

Tell us about you, how long have you been producing music? What did inspire you to start?

I am Rome in Reverse, electronic producer, I was born and grow up in Italy, currently based in Copenhagen, here, where it all began.

I started producing music 13 years ago, then I was the leader of a grunge and after rock/ electronic band.

I think nothing, in particular, inspired me, I always had music in the blood.

The music industry is super competitive these days, was there a moment in your life that you wanted to give up on music?  How did you manage to stay focused and achieve what you want?

Every single day I would give up.

Time goes on and that’s scared me, but, I would like to say to all the artists like me who are fighting against music industry that, to be an ‘unknown’ artist doesn’t mean to be incapable of what we do.

It’s a question of luck sometimes, like saying “be in the right place at the right time”. I really feel ‘music’ like a vocation to me.

That’s the reason why, then, I never give up. Thanks for this question.

How would you describe your creative processes? Who writes the lyrics to the songs? Are the music and lyrics written in conjunction, or separately?

Not easy. I produce samples and loops, (and lyrics sometimes because my tracks don’t really need it) searching the match between them and the sounds I want isn’t always easy.

Melody, beats, samples, and loops come first, separately the rest.

Where the inspiration comes from?

Difficult to say. Certainly comes from my moods.

What’s your favourite track from the upcoming album and what other bands/artists are you listening to right now?

From the upcoming album ORACOLO.

About other artists, between my records should never miss: The Field, John Hopkins, Bonobo, Four TeT, James Blake, Bon Iver, Moby, Flume, Chet Faker, Odesza, Paul Kalkbrenner,

Sigur Rós, Mogwai, Tycho, London Grammar, Explosion in The Sky, Cigarette after sex, Slowdive. Do you want me to keep going? :)

What’s next for you?
