Netflix Teams up with Ubisoft on Three New Games

The push from Netflix to enter the gaming market is going to be stepped up a level thanks to their collaboration with Ubisoft. This will see three exclusive titles produced for Netflix subscribers, including one that’s based on the massively popular Assassin’s Creed franchise. What can we expect from these games and when will they be released?

What Do We Know So Far?

It was announced by Ubisoft that they’re currently working on these three games for Netflix and that they’ll all be based on their own existing franchises. The most eye-catching detail is that one of the games is said to be based on the Assassin’s Creed series, which has sold more than 200 million copies worldwide, making it one of the top ten game franchises.

2022 is the 15th anniversary of the Assassin’s Creed franchise, and their link with Netflix is going to produce one of six different games that they’re bringing out to celebrate it. In fact, this game was originally meant to be released to promote a Netflix TV series based on the game, which is apparently still being worked on but isn’t going to be available at the same time as the game.

Another of the new games to come out of this partnership will be based on Valiant Hearts. While they haven’t confirmed the details to date, it’ll be based on Valiant Hearts: The Great War from 2014 and might even be a straight sequel to it.

The other title to be mentioned by Ubisoft is The Mighty Quest, which is a free-to-play game that was released in 2015 for Windows and a few years later for mobile devices. Players need to build their own castles and then attack the castles built by others. It isn’t yet clear whether the new game will be similar to the original or will introduce new gameplay or other elements.

When Will We See Them?

For the moment, no exact release dates have been mentioned, although Netflix says that we’ll see all three of them at some point in 2023. It isn’t clear if they’ll be released at the same time or on different dates. However, we do know that they’ll be added to the Netflix mobile app.

The streaming giant also says that there won’t be any advertisements or in-app purchases on their games. However, what isn’t clear is whether all of the company’s subscribers will be able to access the games. With a new subscription level that has a lower cost but is supported by ads due to be launched by the end of this year, we don’t yet know whether these users will be able to play the Ubisoft games.

Will This Help the Gaming Industry to Continue Growing?

The spectacular growth seen in the global gaming industry in recent years has clearly been taken into account by Netflix when making these moves. According to the latest reports, the gaming industry is now worth up to $300 billion annually with some studies suggesting that a third of the global population now plays games regularly.

Naturally, the growth of the sector has led to a greater level of diversification, with these new Netflix games slotting into the fast-growing mobile market. There are thought to be 2.2 billion mobile gamers, making this the most popular way of going online to play games.  The take-up rate for the free games already offered by Netflix has been poor, and these new titles are meant to change that.

We can also see the diversification in terms of the types of games now commonly played.  Puzzle games are the most common mobile games, while shooters and action games are the industry leaders overall. MMOs and strategy board games are among other genres that have a significant share of the market. Augmented reality has helped to introduce new types of games just as it’s changing other industries like food delivery, while virtual reality has also started to have an impact.

The emergence of online casino games has opened up another area where players can take part in varied games. This list of the best casino bonuses in India shows how casinos use welcome offers such as deposit boosts and free spins to encourage new players to join them. These sites typically include a large range of varied slots as well as classic table games such as roulette and blackjack.

We’ll need to wait until 2023 to see whether these new Netflix releases of Ubisoft games help them to gain a larger share of the gaming market. For the moment, the early details suggest that they’re likely to add something interesting to a market that’s already grown enormously and shows no sign of slowing down.
