Tenant friendly apartment updates

You are one of the lucky ones if you have managed to grab yourself a flat in trendy Shoreditch, so what if you had to compromise slightly? The good news is that there are a few tenant friendly things you can do to update your apartment. A lick of paint goes a long way, but we all know about that and of course, these changes need to be easy to remove once you move out.

The kitchen

If the kitchen is looking slightly worse for wear, you can cover up the dodgy-looking backsplash with peel and stick contact paper. Not only will it cover up the dubious floral tiles but it’s also easy enough to remove and a great temporary solution to update an old kitchen.

Painting kitchen cabinets might not be possible, but updating the cabinets by changing small parts of them definitely is! Simply choose the handles you would like to have in the kitchen, remove the old ones and replace them with the new ones. You can keep the old ones in a paper bag in the back of the cabinet and reattach them once you move out.

If you don’t feel like putting any kind of work in, then accessorising your kitchen with some additional lighting is the easiest way to update an old kitchen. Adding various light sources throughout the kitchen will change the mood completely. Utilising battery-powered LED trips underneath the cabinets or even placing a table lamp on the countertop will help to bring light to those dark corners.

The bathroom

Whether it’s a large or tiny bathroom it can quickly look dated especially if it hasn’t been taken care of. There are a couple of tricks to update your bathroom quickly. Grubby grouting isn’t a great look and really ages a bathroom. Grabbing an old clean toothbrush, a grout cleaner and using a bit of elbow grease can go a long way to improving the bathroom.

Exchanging dated fixtures and fittings will add a new lease of life to the space. GROHE has a great selection of basin taps to choose from, so there is bound to be one that tickles your fancy. It’s relatively easy to install new taps, as with the knobs on the kitchen cabinet, simply keep the old bathroom fixtures in a box and switch back to the old ones before you move out.

The hallway

The hallway is the first thing you see when you enter an apartment and often it’s not the most inspiring area of the home. This area is a missed opportunity. The hallway sets the tone for the rest of the apartment, so implementing a few simple rental friendly ideas will update a tired-looking apartment quickly!

If the hallway is dingy then some additional lighting is a great way to add some style and much needed light. If shoes and bags are just thrown on the floor then a console table will go a long way to organising your bits and bobs and is sure to elevate your entrance hall. You can also update your hallway by adding a suitable rug to the space. This is a great alternative if you aren’t allowed to hang anything on the walls.

Making small changes to update your apartment doesn’t have to be a big job, by simply implementing a few of these ideas you can transform the space and bring it up to date without a lot of effort.
