Furniture & Design Trends 2023

Current design and furniture trends are some of the best and most exciting we have seen in ages. A mixture of colours, shapes, and design aesthetics have created several trends that can transform your space and home.

If you are looking for a new furniture or design idea, here are some of the best trends for 2023 that you can implement into your home.

Modern Chandeliers

Classic furniture and fittings, like what you see when you look through the bedroom drawers range at RJ Living, are all making a comeback, in particular, chandeliers. However, they back with a modern twist.

One of the more unusual chandelier trends is when designers use rounded pipes and curves to create the chandeliers. This unique touch on a classic can be a very quirky and eye-catching addition to any room.

Gold Touches

Gold has always been seen as a colour that should be used sparingly in a home. While that hasn’t changed, it has crept into our lives a bit more, with designers and homeowners opting for bigger splashes of the metallic.

Whether it be picture frames, cushions, or a couple of sculptures, gold is a good way to bring in some class and colour into a home without making it too obvious.

Decorative Storage

There is no need for our storage containers to be unappealing or made from solid plastic. Instead, you can opt for more decorative storage options. One of the most popular currently is using old hat cases, briefcases, and trunks for decoration and increasing storage space.

Vintage Armchairs

While we spent several years perfecting the modern look, vintage furniture was slowly making a comeback, in particular, vintage armchairs. These chairs have such a unique shape and sense of style that they can fit into almost any home.

What is even better is that many of them can be found at second-hand and thrift stores and can be refurbished and brought back to life with a little bit of effort and time.

Bold Borders

When it comes to door and wall framing, we usually don’t give too much thought to it. However, a new trend is to choose bold and colourful borders for our doorways, arches, windows and walls.

Using paint or strips of wallpaper to accentuate borders and edges will give you room some subtle depth.

Dark Minerals

We have all seen granite and marble countertops, but one of the newest trends is to use darker minerals. While darker minerals can be a bit harder to find, they can add serious class to a space, especially something like a kitchen or bathroom.

You can take it up a notch by combining these darker minerals with gold or silver accents for even more style.

Bare Woods

Wood has always been a popular choice for furniture and finishings over the years, but it has seen a recent resurgence. More and more people want to include bare and raw wood into their homes for a more natural feel.

While this wood is still treated to ensure it lasts, it is often unpolished and left as close to untouched as possible. Depending on the wood, if you close your eyes and take a smell, you would think you are back in the forest.

Curves

While curved furniture was somewhat popular in the 70s, when you combine the look with modern ideas, you get incredibly unique furniture that could fit into any home. Curved couches, headboards and tables are perfect if you want something a bit different in your space.

Bright & Colourful Wallpaper

Wallpaper has been popular for decades, but most of the time, people will choose recurring patterns and more subtle colours; however, that has all changed. Many are now turning to bright, art-filled wallpaper that looks like something you would find in a medieval castle.

The colours and designs are made to contrast the simplicity of a room, creating a focal point that is eye-catching and breathtaking.

Plants

There is no better way to get colour and freshness into a room than through indoor plants. Pot plants and hanging plants are also a great ways for getting clean air into your home, especially if you live in an apartment or somewhere that doesn’t have trees or plants nearby.

Four-Poster Canopy Beds

There was a stage where modern, minimalist beds were the go-tos. They were simple, clean, and did the job perfectly. However, many people have now realised that they want more out of their bed; they want it to be a sanctuary, more than just somewhere to sleep.

Four-poster beds and canopy beds are like blanket forts for adults and will add a 16th-century touch to your bedroom in a way you will adore.

Forests

Many designers and homeowners are trying to bring the outdoors indoors, and to do this; they are using the forest aesthetic. While it isn’t necessary to cover your walls in forest wallpaper and get forest-themed linen, carpets, and decorations, subtle touches are enough.

A forest-themed carpet or one wall with forest wallpaper will bring new life into a room, especially one that tends to be more dark and dingy.
