Camden’s finest free street festival returns.
Returning on 2nd – 3rd September, this year’s Camden Inspire festival will celebrate the borough’s creativity and community with a packed schedule that will engage the imagination of locals and visitors alike. The community-powered event will be located in the heart of Camden at Buck Street and Stucley Place, which provide a colourful backdrop to the festivities with their array of street murals and art.
This year’s music line up has been curated by local institutions Roundhouse, Cafe KOKO, Green Note, Spiritual Bar and Camden’s own Dig It Soundsystem. Joining the dots between indie, jazz, soul, electronica, dream-pop and folk, new confirmations include: Prime Cuts, one third of legendary turntablists The Scratch Perverts, who will be closing off proceedings with an incendiary DJ set; Venus Flytraxx, whose fusion of global dance and Afrofuturist sounds are sure to bring a carnival spirit to Camden; jazz bassist vocalist and composer Amy Gadiaga, and many more.
Highlights from the creative workshop programme include: lino printing with multimedia artist River Manning; capoeira with Centro Cultural Senzala; mosaic making with the London School of Mosaics and circus skills with Roundhouse. All workshops are free or heavily subsidised and can be booked here.
A global array of street food favourites, ranging from authentic home-cooked Caribbean food from Vibe‘n’Go to the taste of Thailand courtesy of Pmo Thai Cafe, and Mediterranean favourites with a Kosovan twist from Peron Nº4. There’s also award-winning gluten-free food from Libby’s, Sri Lankan rotis cooked up by Chef Jahan of Spice Gate; and artisan cheese from Euston connoisseurs Cheezelo. Meanwhile, Werewolf Beer will be serving American-inspired craft brews made right under the local railway arch alongside True Romance Pizza who they will be collaborating with especially for Camden Inspire.
Elsewhere, renowned music imprint White Rabbit will be hosting a Music Book & Record Fair, featuring top UK music publishers including Rough Trade Books, Faber, Nine Eight and Omnibus. Taking place from 12 – 6pm on Sunday 3rd September, the music book fair will offer a treasure trove of the best music writing out there.
Amy Lamé, London Night Czar said: “I’m delighted that some of Camden’s fantastic venues are joining together as part of this year’s Camden Inspire festival. Together they will be celebrating the borough’s music and community with a line-up from indie and jazz to soul and folk. It’s another fabulous reason to visit the area and soak up the global artistry and sounds that make Camden famous as we continue building a better London for everyone.”
