Musical Bingo Bonanza!

You hear a tune and keep thinking “I know this song, aaaah who was this singer?” Well you have to be quick to find the answer to that question if you are at the Musical Bingo! I was at the Musical Bingo 5th Birthday Bonanza at Concrete the other week and I was pathetic. Not only I don’t know the names of the songs or the singers but also I’m not able to tell the song until I hear the lyrics. So my Bingo sheet was as clean as the “useful things to know about music” compartment in my brain. The rest of the “contestants” were in a state of frenzy cheering and dancing as they were marking their Bingo sheets and running to the stage to claim their prize. I did enjoy the music as much as I enjoyed the others. After a while I started cheering to each new song as if I had a clue, it was clearly more fun that way!

As you might have realized by now, I’m not a regular at these musical bingo events so I had to figure out the rules through careful observation. As far as I’m concerned you’re supposed to take your marked bingo sheets to the hostess at the end of each session (if you have a bingo of course) and if there are more people claiming their prize like you it means there’s more competition waiting for you. These competitions turned out to be good fun but only if you’re among the audience I guess because I don’t think I’d be happy to loop a hula hoop around my neck or pick balls using only my teeth out of a bucket filled with water (or maybe I would depending on the prize and how many drinks I’ve had).

Since all the action takes place at Concrete, the basement venue in the Pizza East building, so food wise you’re in good hands since the pizza comes from the Pizza East kitchen. We had the goat’s cheese pizza with tomatoes, which turned into quite an adventure. We were sitting right by the bar and we saw a pizza being placed on an empty table probably for a waiter to pick it up and bring it to us. However, the pizza caught no one’s attention but ours for the following fifteen minutes until a waiter realized its mere existence. By then the pizza was no longer stone oven baked but stone cold so we had to ask them to reheat it for us. They took the pizza away and returned it warm and with a full refund of our money to compensate for the wait, which is much appreciated. Among other food you may choose there are a few more pizzas, small bites and appetizers such as Calamari, Garlic Bread and Marinated Olives & Almonds.

It was totally a different experience for me although I felt like a bad student who hasn’t prepared for an oral exam. I guess I’ll be better off just shaking it in da club to a song I don’t know the name of.

The next Musical Bingo event is at The Book Club on Sunday, 3 June and it’s going to be a street party! Enjoy your Diamond Jubilee Weekend and party away!
