When I’m dead and gone, people will know that the twenty-first century was started by Alexander McQueen – Alexander McQueen
Marking 5 years after Alexander McQueen’s death, the highly awaited exhibition ‘Savage Beauty’ has come to London’s Victoria and Albert museum. Ticket sales have already exceeded 70,000 so Made in Shoreditch thought we would give you an insider look into the exhibition. Curated by Claire Wilcox, the exhibition is the world’s largest retrospective of his work with over 244 objects. It is one of the biggest fashion exhibitions the V and A have ever held with extremely dramatic lighting, decor and very enticing music. Alexander McQueen was well known for his extravagance and originality which is felt throughout this exhibition. He was one of the most influential fashion designers with celebrity patrons such a Kate Moss, Naomi Campbell, Lady Gaga and Rihanna to say a few. The works range from his early days at Central St Martin through to more recently before he committed suicide in 2010.
With a huge amount of interactive content, from a hologram of Kate Moss to audio recordings of Lee Alexander McQueen back in his early days in London, “Savage Beauty” really is an immersive experience. “The collections at the V&A never fail to intrigue and inspire me, the nation is privilaged to have access to such a resource…it’s the sort of place I’d like to be shut in overnight.”
Alexander McQueen ‘Savage Beauty’ will be open 14 March till 2nd August.
