Back to the Future with Lomography Madness

Enough with the digital cameras, smart phones, little gadgets that know how to do everything so perfectly all around us! Where is the excitement of taking a photograph and waiting for it to be delivered to see the result? What happened to taking one more shot of the same frame “just in case”? There is no “just in case” anymore because we can control everything with the click of a thumb. Well, for those of you who have missed the surprises of analogue cameras Lomography is the real deal!

With its super light and colourful cameras it’s so hard to resist becoming a collector of these playful objects.

Lomo is not just a camera, it is a philosophy, it’s a club, it’s new but it’s old, it’s got its own rules one of which is not to worry about any rules. Lomo Kompakt Automat, the little Russian camera which started it all, was rediscovered by a group of students from Vienna when they were touring Prague in the early 1990s. To their surprise the photos were unique and beautiful so it soon became popular among their friends and family. Its group of admirers grew bigger and bigger and now there are lomography shops all around the world. London hosts two Lomography Gallery Shops, one in Soho and the other one in Shoreditch, on 117 Commercial Street. These shops are not just to buy cameras, films and accessories, they also serve as the headquarters of the Lomo club. You can join events here and actually learn how to bring out the best in your little magician.

EVENTS

The next event in Lomography Gallery Store East London is on Saturday, 14 January, where you can shoot a short film with the new LomoKino, just like this: The Lomography LomoKino For £15 you receive a short presentation teaching you how to use the camera, lend a LomoKino camera and 2 rolls of films but you have to book ahead because everyone is in for a retro film experience and spaces are limited! For more events check this out Lomo Events I can’t wait for the LomoWalk to Columbia Road Flower Market with the Sprocket Rocket! Flowers on a panoramic lens, romantic or what!

Now leave that lousy digital device in your hand and grab a Lomo to discover your inner photographer without the help of the fancy applications. Don’t think, just shoot away!
