Presented by Saatchi Art, The Other Art Fair is back for its Summer Session at King’s Cross with a vibrant programme that includes features, installations, charity collaborations, DJs, a fully stocked bar and the chance to discover one hundred of the most exciting independent artists.
Discover the best emerging artists
The Summer Session is one of the most exciting showcases for independent emerging artists and an unmissable highlight for London each summer, offering astute collectors and those discovering art for the first time the chance to chat to the artists and buy work directly from the next generation of creators. Here are five artists you should have on your radar for this summer’s fair.
Award-winning shoe designer turned ceramicist, Yurim Gough will present her delicate ceramic works which incorporate expressive life drawings and contemporary images. In May 2022, Gough’s deeply personal ceramic project titled ‘VainEgo’ received critical acclaim as a solo exhibition at London’s APT Gallery. This project featured ceramic self-portraits documenting the artist’s emotional journey in overcoming breast cancer. Gough’s art often explores these complex human experiences and contemporary culture. Her other notable projects include ‘Gender-fluid,’ an exploration of gender, and ‘Emotion Machine,’ which represents emotions through colour.
Ewan Taylor, also known as Redbellyboy, is renowned for his vibrant and playful artwork. With bright colours, bold lettering, intricate designs, and a touch of humour, Taylor’s creations are visually striking. He will present limited-edition prints that boast loud palettes and pop-culture-inspired graphic styles. Taylor’s work was chosen by Grayson Perry to be part of the prestigious Royal Academy Summer Exhibition in 2022. He has gained recognition and representation with leading print galleries, such as Jealous, Print Club London, and Rise Art, amongst others.
Discover New Futures
Goldsmiths University graduate, Marion Aschbacher is a London-based, Reunion Island-born painter and sculptor exploring themes of diaspora and nostalgia in reference to her home country to draw upon cultural references and experiences surrounding her childhood. Aschbacher was selected as one of the winners of The Other Art Fair’s New Futures project, which is designed to help launch the careers of emerging artists by offering a free exhibition space at the fair alongside art mentorship.
Keisuke Azuma is the second artist selected for New Futures. A graduate of Chelsea College of Arts, Azuma’s intuitive abstract expressionism employs landscapes and the natural world to portray emotions and memories. Hoping to connect with any viewer, regardless of their knowledge of contemporary art, Azuma focuses on subtle narratives, inviting us to explore our own inner states, allowing for an infinite range of interpretations and meanings.
Abstract Colour
The striking, visceral works of Phoebe Power aim to say what language cannot. Deep diving into abstract concepts innate to the human spirit through her own life experiences and relationship to mental health, Power utilises art to illicit a deeper connection between herself and the viewer. Through expressive strokes, bold colour combinations, and abstract scenes, she creates artworks that are not only visually appealing but also thought-provoking, tapping into the depths of the human spirit.
