Shoreditch Town Hall today announce a brand new summer festival of cabaret and performance, bringing the genre’s most exciting and original talent from across the UK to East London for three weeks as part of Unleashed in its revamped performance space, The Ditch this July.
Taking place between Friday 12 – Sunday 28 July 2013, Unleashed will offer audiences the chance to see outstanding cabaret theatre by more than twenty of the most established and exciting artists working today in a programme of Edinburgh Previews, venue takeovers, new shows, live music and spectacular double-bills including Miss Behave, Piff the Magic Dragon, Abigail Collins, Christopher Green, Sarah-Louise Young and Michael Roulston, Lili La Scala and the last ever live performances from Eat Your Heart Out, curated by Scottee.
Having recently completed the first phase of a three stage capital programme, Shoreditch Town Hall will be presenting a three-week season in ‘The Ditch’, the new name for its warren of atmospheric and unique basement spaces beneath the grand Victorian Town Hall. This programme will represent the first time, thanks to the completion of the first building phase, that the Hall has been able to operate freely as a place of public entertainment.
Comprising a bar and two bespoke performance areas, The Ditch will allow performances to happen back to back from Wednesday – Sunday throughout July in a format the venue has never used before.
Nick Giles, Director of Shoreditch Town Hall Trust said: “Unleashed represents another really exciting step forward for the Town Hall – our first in house curated festival, a new identify for our amazing basement in The Ditch, and a whole raft a new of new creative relationships. For the past nine months we have been really focused on successfully completing the first phase of our capital project, and now that we are there it’s wonderful to be able to realise more and more of the potential of our building – all 46,500ft and 70 rooms of it. The Ditch couldn’t be a better home for this new festival”
