Since it’s launch earlier this year, happn, a cool new app fresh out of Paris, has been taking London by storm. The app helps you find the people you’ve crossed paths with, providing a solution to all those missed encounters. After barely ten months of connecting people around the world, the app has already reached 1 million users and to celebrate we caught up with Phoebe, one of the app’s many success stories hailing from London.
Phoebe, who downloaded happn earlier this year, explains how she took her chance on happn and hasn’t looked back since:
“We went on our first date in September and have essentially been inseparable since. It was hands down the best first date I’ve ever been on. We laughed a huge amount – within 5 minutes we’d sorted out Scottish politics. We drank delicious cocktails, ate amazing Thai food, helped a group of 50 something women fix a table that broke in the pub we were in… It was relaxed and easy, even though I think we were both a bit nervous deep down. It transpired that Jack had wanted to get my number when we first bumped into each other on the bus but I vanished before he had the chance! Thankfully he found me on happn shortly after and the rest is history.. Needless to say it was a huge relief that our spark from that brief encounter on the bus turned out to be genuine!”
Launched in Paris early 2014 and in London in May, happn is now also present in New York, Madrid, Barcelona and Berlin, and is currently launching in Chicago, Los Angeles and Sydney.
The app is geolocated and uses real-time to reflect your real-life interactions: every time you cross paths with another member, their profile immediately appears on your app’s timeline. If you find your handsome stranger again, you just need to press the ‘Heart’ button for a secret Like, or to send a ‘Charm’ to make sure they notice you. If you both like each other, you can start a conversation and see if your paths crossed for a good reason…

happn also gives you the opportunity to discover the interesting people you keep bumping into every day. The app tells you how many times you’ve crossed someone’s path before and also where your last encounter was thanks to a little map on every profile. Who knows… Some of these people could become characters in your story too.
