This week for ‘Label of the Week‘ series we interviewed Simon Lomas, eCommerce Manager at Bellfield Clothing.

Tell us about Bellfield Clothing brand?

Bellfield was started to bridge a gap in the market for well-priced, branded and fashionable mens and ladies casual clothing that we feel didn’t exist at the time. With our history in the industry as a fashion supplier to leading high street stores we felt that we could conceive a brand that followed that success and that was the obvious evolution for our business. Initially starting in menswear basing our roots in heritage and inspirations of the past, our first collection was based on Arctic and Japanese explorers, we then launched our womenswear collections and have constantly evolved with the market which has seen us gain longevity and relevance.

What is unique about Bellfield Clothing?

There is a lot that sets our brand apart from others, but a major USP of Bellfield is the quality of our clothing against the price. To our knowledge, there are few brands out there who can compete with us on quality and price at the same time, and this is a major factor we retain so many of our customers. As previously mentioned, we were initially inspired to build a brand that bridged the gap between well-priced and fashionable clothing and it is really important for us to continue creating collections which stay true to this. A perfect example of this is our coats and jackets collection. Season after season we continue to produce a range of affordable, fashionable and technical coats and jackets that appeal to a wide range of customer types.

Where do you get inspiration for the new collections?

Over the years we have taken influences from across the globe, and that also includes our local environment of Shoreditch. Our designers have been on research trips to Los Angeles, Japan and most recently we have been visiting Scandinavia. The clean lines and smart / casual aesthetic really suits our brand which I think you can see in our recent collections.

What were the biggest obstacles developing and launching your company? What did motivate you to overcome them?

Initially, we started as a private label supplier to the high street. After building a successful business on the wholesale side we thought we could fill the gap that we felt existed in the branded market, and that was where Bellfield Clothing started. The biggest obstacle we faced was to be seen as a dedicated brand when for so many years we were seen as a private label supplier only. We strongly believed in both our brand vision and product which has helped us to cement ourselves as a go to brand for well-priced, fashionable clothing.

What does the future has in store for your business?

There is so much to come from our brand moving forward. We have just showcased our AW16 collection at Jacket Required in London and CIFF in Copenhagen. We have had some really great feedback across both menswear and womenswear so we are excited to launch the collection later in the year. We also aim to venture into retail and build on relationships with existing customers both within the UK and worldwide. Further down the line we aim to expand into new markets such as China and South America.
