Compiling his latest artwork, Vas will launch his second book on 25 February. The book will include artwork on the Rolling Stones, AC/DC, Metallica, Slayer and more. Thunderstruck is produced by Gerardo Contreras, a Mexican Curator, and released by the American Preteen Gallery. An exhibition will be showing his new work in the two cities he works in: London and Madrid.
Vas has an obsession with AC/DC. They provide a large amount of inspiration for the artist’s work, which consists of endless tributes to the band. Born in Maracay, Venezuela, he has studied Fine Art there and in Amsterdam. His inspiration is rock and roll music, a foundation for creativity. The artist’s color palate must be simple and precise. Every brushstroke must be completed the first time around. He has been to 32 AC/DC, seven Rolling Stones and eight Metallica concerts.
Kippenland is Vas’ kingdom of poultry he uses to create a mythology of rock legends. “Here they dwell in a universe of bird-faced creatures who adore AC/DC and become more devoted fans with each passing minute,” said Artishock author Ben Zandberg. Chickens are considered sacred to many cultures, much like AC/DC is considered sacred to the artist. Vas’ passion for the bands and Kippenland can be viewed at a solo show and his book, Thunderstruck.
“Obsession can be a mental illness,” Vas says, “but it is also the cure, at least for a lost soul searching for the highway to hell.”
