Annual Orchid Festival 2023

Kew Garden hosts the annual orchid festival every year. In 2022 more than 5,000 orchids were growing in Kew Gardens alone. The garden collects and grows plants from around the globe, creating a perfect day trip.

2023 is the first year the garden will celebrate an African nation with its living plant cultures. The African nation of Cameroon and its biodiversity inspire the orchid festival for 2023. The festival returns from 4 February to 5 March.

According to Kew.org, “horticultural displays and living plant sculptures [are planted] throughout the Princess of Wales Conservatory.”During London’s dull and gray winter months, the annual orchid festival brings bright and vibrant colors from Cameroon. The display will span across ten different climatic zones for different experiences.

Kew Gardens sculpts life-sized animals from plants native to Cameroon, like giraffes, gorillas, lions, and more.

Solene Dequiret, the Supervisor of the Princess of Wales Conservatory at the Royal Botanic Gardens, Kew, says:

“The Orchid festival is always the perfect antidote to the chillier days of winter and provides us with a wonderful opportunity to showcase a selection of incredible plants which transform the Princess of Wales Conservatory, as well as allowing us to highlight the vital work of our science colleagues and partners working in Cameroon.”
