5 Eye Makeup Looks to Wear with a Classic Red Lip

Wearing a red lipstick is a timeless makeup look. It’s a staple and an easy way to help boost your confidence and make you feel empowered, whatever you’re doing. A red lipstick can be perfect for any occasion, but you might be wondering what sort of eye makeup looks you can pair with a red lip. Below is some of our favorite eye makeup to wear with a red lip, with tips and advice to get the perfect look.

Bold Cat Eye

A bold cat eye eyeliner paired with a red lip is a classic, iconic look. You can keep your cat eye flicks small and subtle or go big for a more dramatic look. You can sweep neutral eye shadow onto your lids to brighten them, or you can leave them natural. Apply a glowing base to help the cat eye and red lip pop – think soft cream blush and just a hint of bronzer to add a subtle glow and dimension to the face.

For the perfect cat eye flick, a pen or liquid eyeliner in classic black can work best. Then just add a coat or two of mascara for a fluttery finish.

Simple Minimalist

If you want your red lip to be the star of the show, you can opt for a super minimalist eye makeup look. Apply an eye shadow in your natural, neutral shade to help give an even and bright look. Curling your eyelashes can help to give a wide-awake look with minimal makeup, and you could add a sweep of lengthening mascara if you need a little more dimension.

When you’re going for a minimalist makeup look, your brows will be a key feature. Brush and shape your brows with a brow gel in your natural shade. This will help to frame your face and your eyes and add balance to your face with your red lip.

Bronzed and Shimmery

A shimmery bronze eye shadow is a great way of adding a touch more glamour to your look. Start this look by applying a matte, neutral shadow across your lid, to act as the base. Then, add a gold eye shadow across your lid, from the lash line to your crease. You can also add a sweep to your bottom lash line for even more shimmer.

Next, smoke out a warm bronze shade into the outer corner of your eye. You can also add a sweep to your bottom lash line, starting in the outer corner and blending it out to the center of your eye. Add a few coats of mascara to finish the look.

Dramatic Smokey Eye

A smokey eye is a classic look that pairs perfectly with a red lip. For a timeless look, stick with browns, greys, and blacks. Remember, the darker you go, the more dramatic the final look will be.

Start with a mid-tone eye shadow all across the lid. Then apply a kohl eyeliner in a dark shade across the lash line. Before it sets, smoke the liner out with an eye shadow in a similar shade. Blend the darker shade of eye shadow up from your lash line and out towards the outer corner, and also across your crease. You can also add a smudge of darker eye shadow across your lower lash line, blending it out towards the outer corner.

Finish with a lighter shade that’s a couple of shades lighter than your mid-tone eye shadow. Smoke this up from your crease to your brow bone. The key to the perfect smokey eye is to blend, blend, blend, so you get a seamless gradient. Once you’re done, you can add a light highlight to your inner corner and a few coats of volumizing mascara to really make your eyes pop.

Petal Pink

Pairing a red lip with pink eye shadow can make a gorgeous, fun and bright look. You can add a sweep of one pink shade for a simple look, or you can create a smokey eye using reds and pinks for a more romantic look.

When picking your pink shades, it’s best to find colors that will complement your red lipstick. So, if your red lipstick has blue undertones, find a pink eye shadow that also has more blue undertones. This helps to create a cohesive look. For the rest of your makeup, keep it simple and natural. Add just a subtle flush of blush and a few coats of a lengthening mascara.
