Tell us about you, how long have you been producing music? What inspired you to start?
I have been producing music for over a decade. My journey began with a classical training in piano, violin, choir, and orchestra until I was 19 years old. My inspiration to start producing music came from a deep passion for blending different musical genres and pushing the boundaries of what music can be. The electric violin, in particular, has been a significant part of my creative expression, allowing me to merge classical elements with electronic music to create a unique soundscape.
The music industry is super competitive these days, was there a moment in your life that you wanted to give up on music? How did you manage to stay focused and achieve what you want?
Yes, there were challenging times when I felt overwhelmed, especially balancing my music career with my studies in medicine. Before the pandemic, I was performing around 80 shows a year while also working part-time as a doctor, which took a toll on my body and mind. However, these challenges gave me an opportunity to refocus on what truly matters. I took a step back, re-evaluated my goals, and decided to concentrate on both my music and finishing my PhD on glioblastoma brain tumors. This balance helped me stay grounded and motivated to continue pursuing my passion for music.
How would you describe your creative processes? Who writes the lyrics to the songs? Are the music and lyrics written in conjunction, or separately?
My creative process is quite organic. It often starts with a basic structure or melody that I build upon. For example, when collaborating with other artists like my partner Lydgen, we might take a walk, play the track on a small speaker, and let inspiration flow naturally. The lyrics and music can come together in various ways, sometimes simultaneously and other times separately. I enjoy experimenting with different sounds and instruments, often incorporating live electric violin improvisations into my tracks.
Where did the inspiration come from?
Inspiration comes from various sources, including personal experiences, other artists, and different cultures. For instance, I discovered Tallulah Rendall‘s music at AfrikaBurn, which profoundly inspired me. Collaborating with her on ‘Radiate Love’, the newest release, was a process of blending her style with my own, resulting in a track that captures the essence of true emotional connection. My classical background also continuously influences my compositions, providing a rich foundation to draw from.
What’s next for you?
Looking ahead, I am excited about the future of my label NASAJA, where I plan to release more innovative tracks and collaborations with various artists. Pretty soon we have an upcoming release with Lydgen on 23rd August of our song ‘Matter of Time’, which had its premiere last year at Burning Man and is a true masterpiece! I am also working on new music and preparing for upcoming performances at festivals like Burning Man and ADE. Additionally, I am actively involved in developing a new music streaming platform called WeR1, which aims to create a more transparent and rewarding ecosystem for artists and their communities.
