Richard Zinon In his studio with Freddie Burness, Kerégal, Brittany, France '24. By Hugo Thomassen

Richard Zinon’s Peut Être: A Captivating New Art Exhibition in London

Discover an unmissable art exhibition in London this spring as Cadogan Gallery unveils Peut Être, a stunning new collection by Richard Zinon. Opening on 13 February and running until 29 March 2025, the exhibition will take place in the gallery’s flagship space in Belgravia.

A Journey of Reflection and Creation

Inspired by Zinon’s recent move to Brittany, France, this new body of work explores themes of self-reflection and temporality. Since relocating to the coastal village of Kerégal, Zinon has embraced solitude, allowing nature to fuel his creative process. His studio, a centuries-old chapel perched above cliffs, shapes the rhythm of his days.

Each step of Zinon’s artistic journey is deliberate. From handcrafting English oak frames to stretching canvases with care, the artist’s work reflects precision and emotional depth. While not directly inspired by his surroundings, the vivid light and wild landscapes of Brittany resonate through his creations, providing a profound sense of freedom.

Stepping into a Sacred Space

Zinon’s paintings invite viewers into a space of quiet contemplation. Each piece captures fleeting moments of raw emotion and introspection. The works feature layered warm tones, subtle color combinations, and carefully defined marks. This creates a meditative experience for viewers, drawing them into the subtle beauty of each composition.

“I don’t want my work to represent anything specific—it’s about the feeling behind it,” Zinon explains. His canvases are built gradually, with thin oil layers creating textures akin to aged paper. Rich tones of reddish-brown, golden brown, and linen white add depth, contrast, and a timeless quality.

A Transformative Experience

Zinon’s approach to painting is both physical and intuitive. He pushes artistic boundaries, balancing precision with raw, expressive marks. After completing each work, he waits, allowing the pigments and oils to settle naturally. This process transforms his canvases into living pieces that evolve and reveal themselves over time.

An Ambitious Exhibition in Belgravia

Freddie Burness, Director of Cadogan Gallery, describes Peut Être as “an ambitious exhibition in both scale and vision.” The care behind Zinon’s work and its contemplative themes make this exhibition a standout moment in London’s art calendar.

The exhibition will also feature a reflective essay by acclaimed French writer Adeline Mace, offering an intimate perspective on Zinon’s creative journey.
