The Global SinoPhoto Awards (GSPA) 2025 celebrates its fifth anniversary with a landmark exhibition at Christie’s London from 13–31 January 2025. This annual photography contest highlights Chinese culture worldwide, fostering international dialogue through the lens of talented photographers. For the first time, the event will introduce a special People’s Award, allowing visitors and social media users to vote for their favorite work.
Showcasing Cultural Identity Through Photography
The exhibition will feature 62 striking photographs selected from entries submitted between 2020 and 2024. These images capture the nuances of Chinese culture from a global perspective, offering fresh insights into identity and heritage. Curated by renowned producer Sebah Chaudhry, the exhibition transcends nationality, geography, and status, making it an inclusive celebration of shared culture.
A Landmark Opening by Martin Parr
Acclaimed British photographer Martin Parr will open the exhibition. Known for his documentary photography and work on The Chinese Photobook: From the 1900s to the Present, Parr has built a deep connection with China. Reflecting on his involvement, Parr stated,
“Photography reveals the subtle elements of culture and identity. GSPA allows us to see perspectives with empathy and understanding.”
His participation emphasizes the Awards’ mission to build bridges through art in an increasingly polarized world.
Celebrating the Diversity of Chinese Culture
Since its inception, GSPA has received thousands of entries from photographers across 40 countries. Founder Yintong Betser, a UK resident for over 30 years, spoke about the global reach of Chinese culture. She noted,
“From Tai Chi in European parks to Chinese New Year in Western calendars, our culture fascinates and connects globally.”
This year’s exhibition continues to explore these connections, presenting a curated visual journey through the Chinese diaspora and its enduring influence.
People’s Award: Empowering Audiences to Participate
For the first time, GSPA will feature the People’s Award, allowing audiences to engage directly. Visitors can vote for their favorite photograph, both in person and on social media, amplifying the Awards’ inclusivity.
Sponsors and Continued Support
The Awards are supported by key sponsors, including Raymond Legal and Blick Rothenberg, the latter of which has partnered with GSPA since 2021. Their support ensures the continued success of this meaningful initiative.
