Floral Art Takes Over Saatchi Gallery: A Blossoming Celebration of Creativity

This spring, Saatchi Gallery in London invites visitors to immerse themselves in the drama and beauty of flowers. Flowers – Flora in Contemporary Art & Culture, supported by Cazenove Capital and Buccellati, showcases the captivating influence of flowers in art. Among the highlights are Rebecca Louise Law’s La Fleur Morte and Miguel Chevalier’s Extra Natural, two installations that offer vastly different yet equally mesmerizing perspectives.

Rebecca Louise Law’s La Fleur Morte: A Reflection on Life and Sustainability

Renowned for her work with natural materials, Rebecca Louise Law brings over 100,000 dried flowers to Saatchi Gallery. Her installation, La Fleur Morte, transforms a 2,000 sq ft space into a contemplative haven.

Each flower in the piece carries a story. Since 2003, Law has collected discarded blooms from the commercial flower industry and gardens worldwide. She even grows her own. By preserving every petal and capturing floral dust, Law ensures her art reflects themes of sustainability and life cycles.

Visitors can explore the suspended formations, discovering diverse colors and textures while pondering humanity’s connection to nature. Workshops involving local communities have contributed to this installation, bringing people together to craft pieces of this floral masterpiece.

Miguel Chevalier’s Extra Natural: A Futuristic Floral Garden

On the other side of the gallery, Miguel Chevalier offers a futuristic take on nature with his generative installation, Extra Natural. This interactive virtual garden responds to visitors’ movements, blending vibrant visuals with dynamic technology.

The 70-square-meter projection features stylized, digital plants that grow, bloom, and transform endlessly. As visitors wander, flowers bend, petals fall, and the garden evolves, creating a symbiotic interaction between humans and digital nature. Chevalier’s work encourages reflection on the relationship between technology and the environment.

An Exhibition Rooted in Global Creativity

Flowers have been a universal muse, inspiring over 500 unique artworks presented across nine major gallery spaces at Saatchi Gallery. From Water Lilies to Flora Imaginaria, visitors can admire works by artists such as Damien Hirst, Takashi Murakami, and Georgia O’Keeffe.

With its community-focused approach, the exhibition celebrates not only individual creativity but also collective expression. Saatchi Gallery Lates offer evening workshops, drawing classes, and other creative activations.
