How to style and stack your rings

For years, jewellery was seen as an accessory that should be understated and used sparingly. Recent trends have flipped this mindset on its head, though, with jewellery being used as statement pieces and focal points for your outfits.

Ring stacking is a way to balance both sides of the coin. You can opt for dainty, thin bands which neatly fit together, or you could choose to have larger ones with mismatched metals and embellishments. The possibilities are endless! Here are some tips on stacking and styling your favourite rings.

Understanding your ring size and fit

If you are new to wearing rings then it is important to know your ring size before you begin shopping. Ensuring you are wearing the correct size prevents rubbing or discomfort throughout the day and reduces the risk of your cherished diamond rings falling off from being too large.

The easiest way to measure your ring size is to take a piece of paper and wrap it around your chosen finger. Mark it with a pen where it overlaps and measure the length. Just remember to make sure the paper can slide over your knuckle before you mark the paper.

Exploring different ring styles

The ring market is full of different ring styles so you can use this as a chance to explore your style. You can opt for classic, plain bands or you can mix it up with statement pieces. These can include gemstones, but there are also designs which don’t.

You will need to consider the different metals for the bands as well. Some metals will look better with your skin tone than others.

Mastering the art of stacking

Stacking rings can be incredibly beautiful as long as you find the right balance and combination of elements. If not, your fingers can look heavy and over the top.

Mixing and matching metals and styles is an easy way to look stylish and put together. You could start tentatively by using thin bands and mixing metals. As your confidence grows, add in statement pieces or rings with jewel adornments.

Remember to keep both of your hands in mind. Try to create balance across your ten fingers rather than keeping the stacking on one hand. This can lead to your look feeling unpolished and messy.

As with all elements of dressing, try to keep your personal style at the forefront of your choices. This leads to you feeling confident and happy.

Caring for your rings

Like all jewellery, there are steps you can take to look after your rings. To minimise scratches and damage, try to remove your rings when doing any manual work. This can be housework, gardening or if you have a physically demanding job

If you notice your rings looking dull or that they have lost their sparkle, try wiping them gently with a wet cloth. Try to avoid materials that will scratch the metal or setting. If this doesn’t work, treat them to a professional clean at your local jewellers.
