Versatile musician I’MMORTAL returns with new single ‘Uncanny Valley’

Multi-modal pop powerhouse I’MMORTAL is back with a brand new single, ‘Uncanny Valley’ released on 14 February 2025 via her Immortality imprint. The poignant single received support from revered tastemaker NOTION. I’MMORTAL is a New York and London-based genre-blending music producer, vocalist, visual artist, and creative director. She launched herself into the digital sphere in August 2023 with the release of her debut tech-house single, ‘Versace Spaceship’ and has since released four more singles. The originals, ‘Supervillain’ (2023) and ‘KILLED U IN A DREAM’ (2024), were followed by a Synthwave remix by LA-based producer Droid Bishop, which was featured on the esteemed Synthwave YouTube channel NewRetroWave, and a remix by melodic techno producer biskuwi, which premiered on DJ Mag Spain. I’MMORTAL’s music has amassed nearly a quarter of a million streams on Spotify alone and has been praised by tastemaker publications such as CLASH Magazine, EARMILK, METAL Magazine and Wonderland Magazine.

Hailing from California, I’MMORTAL spent her childhood and teenage years playing violin in orchestras, unknowingly developing composition skills crucial for her current music production. With a theater background, she discovered her love for singing during high school musicals. Despite a fondness for classical music, she’s an avid listener of EDM, drawn to its gritty basslines and synthetic production. I’MMORTAL’s audio-visual synesthesia makes fusing otherworldly visuals to her imaginative beats only come naturally to her. Her campy visual work often encompasses themes of death and rebirth, the natural world versus artificial constructs, femininity, and her AAPI identity.

With a sound influenced by Sevdaliza, Britney Spears, Lady Gaga, Lana Del Rey, Bjork and SOPHIE (to name but a few, I’MMORTAL’s sound is sure to ensnare fans of the aforementioned avant-pop luminaries as well as Billie Eilish and Pastel Ghost.

‘Uncanny Valley’ is a sonic feast showcasing how I’MMORTAL’s prowess as a producer and storyteller is growing with each new release. The song is peppered with spooky sound effects like door creaks, featuring a prickly trap beat, erratic yet hard-hitting bass, and hazy, meandering vocals drenched in glitchy autotune and vocoder. I’MMORTAL’s lyrics paint a vivid portrait of a being that straddles the line between human and machine. It’s ambiguous whether the song unfolds from a robot’s perspective, confronting a sociopathic human caught in the “Uncanny Valley”, or if a human is speaking to a robot – a nod to the dissolving boundaries between humanity and AI. The song takes a turn with spiking sawtooth synths erupting into a club-ready bridge, featuring a thumping four-on-the-floor, pulsing bassline and dizzying synths, with the vocal refrain driving the song to an unsettling dissolution of futuristic beeps, leaving the listener in a haunted daze.
