Salone del Mobile 2025: Milan Transforms Into the World’s Design Capital

From April 8th to 13th, the 63rd edition of Salone del Mobile.Milano will take over Milan, bringing together over 2,100 exhibitors from 37 countries. This globally influential event remains the ultimate meeting point for the design industry, setting the stage for creativity, innovation, and business. Once again, Milan cements its position as the World Design Capital.

This year’s edition promises a mix of fresh talent, returning industry giants, and a range of cultural installations that will explore the intersections of design, sustainability, and craftsmanship. Among the highlights, British artist Es Devlin will present a spectacular installation at the Pinacoteca di Brera, while the highly anticipated return of Euroluce will bring a new focus on lighting design.

A Global Design Hub

More than 169,000 square meters of exhibition space have been fully booked, proving the event’s ever-growing influence. This year, 168 brands will make their debut, alongside 91 returning exhibitors. Attendees from over 150 countries—including buyers, designers, and investors—will gather in Milan to experience cutting-edge innovations and network with industry leaders.

Salone del Mobile continues to be the design world’s most significant international platform, offering a blend of aesthetics, functionality, and technological advancement. It also highlights sustainability as a driving force in contemporary design, ensuring that new developments align with the industry’s evolving needs.

Cultural Program and Immersive Installations

This year’s event will feature four major cultural projects—two within the city and two inside the exhibition halls. Starting April 6th, Es Devlin’s “Library of Light” at the Pinacoteca di Brera will pay homage to the power of knowledge through a striking visual experience. The installation will showcase over 2,000 donated books, emphasizing the role of design in shaping the future.

Meanwhile, Robert Wilson’s “Mother” at the Museo della Pietà Rondanini will be a tribute to Michelangelo’s masterpiece. Known for his work in theater and visual arts, Wilson will create an immersive experience that highlights the emotional depth of the artwork.

At the fairgrounds, Paolo Sorrentino, in collaboration with scenographer Margherita Palli and composer Max Casacci, will present an installation exploring the concept of waiting—capturing life’s most sincere moments. Additionally, Pierre-Yves Rochon will introduce “Villa Héritage,” a luxurious interior concept inspired by Luchino Visconti’s Venice and the timeless elegance of Gustav Mahler’s music.

The Return of Euroluce

Following the success of The City of Lights in 2023, Euroluce returns with 306 exhibitors, 45% of whom are from outside Italy. This year’s edition will offer a deep dive into lighting trends, from domestic spaces to urban landscapes. The first-ever Euroluce International Lighting Forum will also take place, featuring two days of masterclasses, round tables, and workshops with experts from around the world.

Speakers will include solar designer Marjan van Aubel, plant neurologist Stefano Mancuso, and British anthropologist Timothy Ingold. These discussions will focus on key issues such as sustainability, technological advancements, and the emotional impact of lighting design.

SaloneSatellite: The Future of Design

SaloneSatellite returns with 700 designers from 36 countries, alongside 20 international design schools and universities. The theme for this edition, “New Craftsmanship: A New World,” challenges participants to rethink traditional craftsmanship in the context of modern design.

Over the years, SaloneSatellite has become a launchpad for young creatives, providing fresh perspectives and innovative approaches to design. Many of its alumni have gone on to shape the industry, proving that emerging talent remains at the heart of the event.

Sustainability at the Core

Since 2023, Salone del Mobile has held ISO 20121 certification for sustainable event management. This commitment extends to exhibitors, who are encouraged to design and construct stands in line with the event’s Green Guidelines. Sustainability is no longer an afterthought—it is a key factor in determining the industry’s future.

A Vision for the Future

Maria Porro, President of Salone del Mobile.Milano, emphasized the event’s role in shaping the design industry:

“Since 1961, Salone del Mobile has been a dynamic ecosystem that merges business, culture, and networking. Each edition presents new challenges and opportunities, reinforcing our position as a strategic partner for internationalization. This year, we are welcoming exhibitors and professionals from 150 countries, with Euroluce returning as a global benchmark for lighting design.”

She also highlighted the significance of this year’s cultural program:

“We have exceptional projects in store, including installations by Paolo Sorrentino and Pierre-Yves Rochon, the Euroluce International Lighting Forum, and the Library of Light by Es Devlin. These collaborations continue to push the boundaries of what design can achieve.”

From emerging talent to established industry leaders, Salone del Mobile 2025 is set to be an unmissable event. Whether exploring the latest trends, engaging with new technologies, or reimagining sustainability, Milan will once again be the place where design’s future takes shape.
