Shoreditch isn’t short of good coffee—but OS Coffeeshop is doing something different. Built on the solid foundation of OS Lifestyle’s community-first barbershop, this new space offers more than a flat white. It’s where design meets connection, and every detail reflects Joe Steven’s mission to serve with heart. We caught up with Joe to talk all things OS Coffeeshop, community culture, and caffeinated evolution.
What was the spark behind launching OS Coffeeshop in Shoreditch — and how does it expand the OS Lifestyle vision?
We’ve always been deeply community-focused, building our brand around genuine connection and exceptional customer service. Opening a coffeeshop felt like a natural evolution – we’re passionate about great coffee, and it’s something our clients have consistently asked for. We listened, and this space is a direct response to their feedback and our own love for quality coffee culture.
You’ve described this as a “natural and heartfelt extension” of OS. What made now the right time for this evolution?
It felt like the right time because both sides of the business complement and elevate one another. Coffee brings people together just like barbering does, and combining the two creates a fuller experience for our customers. It also allows us to reach a wider audience and grow our community in an organic, authentic way.
How did the culture of your Shoreditch barbershop influence the vibe and design of the Coffeeshop?
Our brand has a strong and consistent identity, so the transition into coffee was seamless. The same values – high-quality service, attention to detail, and a welcoming atmosphere — are at the heart of both spaces. We carried that culture into the coffeeshop, making sure it still feels like OS, just expressed through a different lens.
What role did community feedback or conversations play in shaping the concept for OS Coffeeshop?
Community feedback played a huge role. Our clients have mentioned for a long time that they’d love a space to grab a great coffee while getting a trim or just to stop by and hang out. We listened, and this concept was born out of those real conversations and consistent requests.
From clippers to coffee beans – how did you go about choosing the right coffee partners and equipment for this space?
We worked closely with coffee experts to bring the concept to life and ensure we got every detail right. From selecting equipment that fits the space to sourcing high-quality beans, we made sure nothing was left to chance. Partnering with Origin was key – they guided us through the journey, from bean knowledge to crafting a product we’re proud to serve.

There’s a clear focus on sustainability, from your carbon-negative barbershop to the energy-efficient Eagle Tempo machine. Why is eco-conscious design so important to you?
Sustainability has always been part of the bigger picture for us – not just a trend, but a core value. It’s helped define who we are as a brand. Being eco-conscious is our way of giving back and setting a standard we hope others in the industry will follow. It’s about doing things the right way, not just the easy way.
The Coffeeshop is described as ‘minimalist yet warm’. How do you achieve that balance in such a dynamic area like East London?
It’s definitely been a challenge, but we were intentional with every design choice. We’ve used warm tones, plants, and thoughtful lighting to soften the minimal look and make the space feel welcoming. Everything in the shop has a purpose and contributes to that balance between calm and character.
How do you want customers to feel when they walk through the doors – whether for a trim, a chat, or a cup of coffee?
We want everyone to feel genuinely welcomed — like they’re stepping into a community, not just a business. Whether someone’s here for a haircut, a coffee, or just a conversation, we’ve created a space where friendships form and people feel at home. It’s more than a transaction – it’s a connection.
In a neighbourhood packed with great cafés, what makes OS Coffeeshop a standout experience for locals and regulars?
It’s our simplicity and care that set us apart. We focus on doing the basics really well – excellent service, quality coffee, and genuine human interaction. On top of that, our sustainable ethos means every customer becomes part of something bigger than just a coffee run.
Looking ahead, do you see more hybrid lifestyle spaces like this in the future of OS – and what might they look like?
Definitely. This is just the beginning. We see the future of OS in multi-purpose, community-driven spaces that bring together grooming, coffee, creativity, and conversation. We’re building a lifestyle and this model gives us room to keep growing in exciting new directions.
