Acme Taco, the taco counter from the chef Andrew Clarke, opens its second site on Sunday 1 November in the 40ft Brewery taproom in Dalston, next door to his live-fire restaurant Acme Fire Cult.

The first Acme Taco opened in April at 40ft’s taproom on Blackhorse Road in Walthamstow. The Dalston kitchen will serve a longer menu than Walthamstow, with tostadas, grilled dishes and sharing platters added to the tacos, according to Hospitality & Catering News and Restaurant Online.

The brewery’s opening listing says the first 50 people through the door on Sunday will get one free taco each from the Tacos Clásicos menu. Doors open at 12pm.

What is on the menu

Clarke built the menu after trips to Mexico City, where he spent time in taco kitchens. The tacos come in double-layered soft tortillas, as they often do in Mexico. Fillings include beef suadero with heart, tongue, cheek and sausage; ribeye steak with cheese and poblano; Tamworth pork castacán with crackling; Swaledale lamb shoulder barbacoa; Jalisco shrimp; and Westholme wagyu birria. Diners add their own salsas.

The tostadas are bluefin tuna with avocado and salsa macha, and confit pig’s head with chicharrón and habanada quince. From the grill come XL shrimps with achiote butter and lime, and Tamworth pork ribs with hot agave and pickled peppers. Two platters for up to four people, grilled achiote chicken and smoked pork hock with adobo, come with salsas, pickles and heirloom corn tortillas. Desserts are a chocolate and black mole ganache and a “dirty horchata” cremeux with cinnamon, rice milk and espresso.

The food is served with 40ft’s own beers and frozen slushies.

Who is cooking

The head chef is Ernesto Puga, who was born in Veracruz and has cooked at From The Ashes and Cavita. Acme Fire Cult stays open alongside the new counter, Hot Dinners reports, so the Bootyard will have two Acme kitchens side by side.
