G: Tell us about your business

I sell and distribute Bamboo Revolution watches in the UK through online marketing, including website and social media network, such as Facebook, Twitter and LinkedIn. I was on holiday in South Africa with my boyfriend for my best friends’ wedding. One day we went to visit our cousin in Cape Town and she introduced us to a friend that works in a wonderful office space in Cape Town. When I entered, I immediately noticed Bamboo Revolution, one of the businesses, and loved the watches. So I decided to buy one for myself. After buying the watch, I could not stop looking at it and thinking how much East London would love them. I thought to myself: “why not to import this product to London?”

G: What is unique about what you do?

The bamboo watches are very unique! The watch dial is made of bamboo, while the strap is 100 % leather. As a result, this dazzling timepiece has a very natural look, as well as being sustainable; changing the way traditional fashion is viewed. Bamboo is just a grass which grows naturally and rapidly in the wild. Through its growth it maintains carbon dioxide absorbent properties.

I love the simplistic designs, constantly inspired by the concept of ‘form follows function’. It also uses the famous Japanese Miyota Quartz Movement and each product is made from high quality materials. We offer various colour leather straps, which come in two different strap variations, allowing you to express your personality and style.

G: What would you say has been your most memorable experience while developing your business?

I got very excited when I received my first batch. It was a Friday, I was supposed to go out to see my friends, but I decided to stay at home and sort my stock out. Holding the beautiful bamboo watches in my hand put a smile on my face… I just could not stop watching and trying the whole collection out, all various colours and sizes.

G: Why do you choose Shoreditch to run your business?

Shoreditch is my second home. Brike lane was the first place I went to when I first arrived in London four years ago, not Buckingham Palace, not London Eye, but Shoreditch! Also, my first job after arriving from Italy with a very little command of English was pressing the bottom in the lift that takes you up to Shoreditch House. So I got my heart here.

G: Who/what are your favorite CEOs/Businesses in Shoreditch?

I love everything is in Shoreditch and the creativity that surrounds this place which makes it so unique. Every time I go there, I get surprised and amazed by its diversity and innovative never-ending entrepreneurial spirit than it became a joke with my boyfriend when I pass by some of the shops I’d say, “Is this new here?” It usually isn’t but it feels like that to me.

G: What are your favorite places in Shoreditch?

I got so many different favorite places, but it depends what I fancy eating really. If I am craving Vietnamese, Kingsland road (I tried all the restaurants out there!), for Thai Rosa’s in Brike Lane, Turkish at Broadway Market and the Kick in Shoreditch High Street. I also love going to dance to Afro/Balkanic Music at New Empowering Church with BalkanBeats London when I can.

G: What does the future has in store for your business?

We want to see if Londoners, and East London, loves our bamboo watches though our online shop and to extend distribution in the UK through speciality shops in London and other cities in the UK.
