Interview with Roaman from Lyrical Nomads

The Lyrical Nomads

Tell us about your band?

Our band is not exactly a band, we are more a collective of best friends and singer-songwriters living, traveling and performing together. We all have our own individual music and projects and we’ve come together because we truly Love one another and each other’s music, and because we share and bring the same message of Peace, Love and Hope.

How long have you guys been performing together? We’ve been performing together for the past 2 years although it is only in the past 7 months that our friendship and mutual admiration became the Lyrical Nomads.

What did inspire you to start?

Love, passion, and seeing the positive impact that we have on people when we perform together. What was the inspiration behind your name? Our nomadic lifestyle and our common passion for music and lyrics

What was your most successful or most enjoyed gig so far?

We performed at St Pancras Old Church in London last November and it was an absolute success in every single way possible, the whole church buzzing with joy, music and community vibes. However sometime we have the most fun when we busk or when we perform in squares and open spaces all across Europe. The more genuine and spontaneous the better, there is something so special and unique about street performing and the connections we make with people passing by and stopping to listen to us (we usually have a FREE HUGS sign with us when we busy)

How would you describe your typical fan?

I wouldn’t say we have a typical fan, we like to think that our music brings people from all walks of Life together because the message that we share is universal and anyone can relate to it :)

Who writes the lyrics to the songs?

We all write our own lyrics and then perform the songs that, as a collective, resonate the most with the message we want to bring out in the world, from Sam Garrett’s “We Are One” to Roaman’s “Be Positive” to Nate Maingard’s “Always Wandering” and so on

How would you describe your creative processes?

We all have very different styles of writing but usually what happens is an idea comes (it could be a melody or a sentence or an experience) and then we literally have to rush to our instrument to try and connect with that inspiration before it goes away. We all know that it is not US who write our songs, we simply take part in the mysterious process of inspiration and creativity. Songs happen through us.

What is the inspiration for your music? Life as a whole, the ups and the downs, the darkness and the Light, our own journeys and experiences, wanting to see peace on Earth, wanting to remind everyone that WE ARE FAMILY, wanting to celebrate the blessing of being alive and wanting to see people smile.

Who are your favorite Artists?

Hard to say as a collective. Our interests range from Bob Marley to Hiatus Kayote, from Mike Love to Paolo Nutini, from hip hop to country and Soul….

What are your plans for the future?

I don’t know about the future but I can tell your our plans for the Present: keep doing what we do, keep writing songs that can comfort, encourage and inspire, travel the world to bring a message of Peace Love and Hope, connect with other musicians, artists and peace makers to unite and be the change we wish to see.
