Artist Gunjan Aylawadi weaves together her cultural identity

GunjanAylawadi_Farasha_1

The act of weaving something is pure handmade affection. Each motion, pulling the fabric closer and closer, creates a pattern that provides us with a cathartic method of stress release but also cultural identity.

Self-taught artist Gunjan Aylawadi creates tapestries that are woven entirely out of paper. From afar, they appear intricate and anything but paper. Up close, its true medium is shown. Aylawadi uses these pieces to express her cultural and self identity. Through her work she hopes to propose a place where the intersection of various human experiences can meet; it’s impossible to determine where one begins and ends, similar to our identity.

Take a look at some of her work!
