Number 90 Bar & Kitchen, Hackney Wick’s stunning canal-side venue, is set to celebrate its sixth year and the return of spring with a weekend filled with good fun, great food and incredible music from the likes of Norman Jay, Nick Höppner, Tom Grainger, Phonica records and Number 90’s all-star residents. Taking place from 2nd – 5th April, the legendary four-day bash will be hosted by some very special guests, ready to embark on a musical journey in celebration of six years in the game.
True to form, Number 90’s birthday weekend will revolve the assemblage of music celebrated by both the artists and audience alike, this year with the added delight of brand-new summer and food menus. Thursday kicks off with London based DJ Tom Grainger playing all night long. Originally from Yorkshire, Grainger has been taking London by storm in 2020, and since moving to the capital has built a solid reputation via his Rinse FM show alongside reputable appearances in clubland at fabric, Printworks, XOYO and more.
Friday’s headliner is none other than the incredible Norman Jay MBE, who is unquestionably one of the most respected and popular DJs in the world today. Co-founder of the legendary Good Times Sound System and London dance music station KISS FM, Jay fostered the ‘Rare Groove’ scene pushing the boundaries of the UK’s emerging club culture. He’ll be joined by current Number 90 residents Tropical Disco, Louise Paley, Vicious Creatures and Patrick Steele.
Saturday will go off with no less of a bang; long-time friends and residents Phonica Records will host Saturday’s shenanigans, joined by legendry Berlin DJ Nick Höppner for three hours of expertly executed house and techno. Nick Höppner skillfully balances, explores and contributes to a dramatically wide range of musical professions, proving him to be one of the backbones of today’s House and Techno underground. Joining him will be Phonica’s expert resident DJs, rising London selector Harri Pepper as well as Number 90’s residents.
With the festivities beginning to wind down, Sunday will see a special extended edition of Number 90’s Sunday Selections. Women in Jazz will take us through the afternoon followed by Maddy Endrighi under her Records Purchased moniker whose expertise lie in everything on the smoother side of the musical spectrum. Think jazz, funk, soul and a whole host of calmer tones to enjoy alongside Number 90’s famous Sunday roast – the perfect way to end the weekend of revelry.
Every year Number 90 throws an incredible birthday party, not just to celebrate another year of success, but to pay thanks to their neighbors, brand affiliates, and customers, who all contribute to making the venue such a unique and popular drinking and dining destination. Maintaining Hackney Wick’s unique and close-knit community is part of Number 90’s ethos, which is why everyone is invited to enjoy free entry to the annual extravaganza.
