Blending In: Camouflage Photography

Photographer from France Camille Mazier  produced these jarring yet enthralling series called the Camouflage that certainly play with our sense of perception. Youthful models have had their faces and upper torsos intricately painted by make up artist Alex Chang so that through Mazier’s masterful photography, they seamlessly blend into the French renaissance walls and the richly patterned fabrics behind them. These images show a departure from Mazier’s typical style, who usually captures stark, everyday scenes within her work. This series plays on the idea that as people we exist entirely in relation to our surroundings, but each photo is also oxymoronic- yes the subjects are camouflaged, but they also completely standout to the viewer’s eye.
