Best International Bookstores in London

As one of the most diverse cities in the world, large swaths of different communities color the streets of London. Emirati restaurants cozy up next to French bakeries and classic English pubs, while a medley of over 250 languages buzzes in the streets. But in a melting pot of different cultures, sometimes all you really need is to sit down and enjoy a piece of home, and there is no better way to do so than to visit a bookstore in your language.

The European Bookstore

Located around the corner from the Gloucester Road tube station, The European Bookstore is by far my favorite destination on the list. This shop offers a multitude of language options including French, German, Italian, Spanish, Russian and Portuguese. The helpful staff are more than happy to offer any assistance and guide you to language learning resources and classic books of many languages.

Libraire La Page

Libraire La Page is a delightful slice of France in London. The sense of camaraderie between the staff and the customers is palpable as they chatter away with one another. The entirely French bookstore has a wide selection of works from translated political biographies to classic French literature. Among the shelves, you can find little postcards hanging from books that contain recommendations from the staff.

Darussalam International Publications

Darussalam International Publications is an Islamic bookstore in the Regents Park Mosque that offers a variety of texts in both English and Arabic. While focusing on primarily religious books, Darussalam contains everything from reference texts to children’s picture books to jars of Sidr honey. The atmosphere is incredibly welcoming and any guest is sure to find what they’re looking for.

Guanghwa Bookshop

Nestled off the streets of Chinatown, Guanghwa Bookshop is the perfect place to engage in community and pick up a book or two on the way. With an impressive selection of Chinese learning material, poetry, novels and more, Guanghwa is home to books that attract all readers. In addition to books, the store also sells calligraphy supplies and offers calligraphy workshops.
