Shoreditch start-ups in their founders’ words, from FundApps to Boomf

Founders who built Shoreditch’s start-up scene told Made in Shoreditch about it from 2011. Which of their companies are still trading in 2026.

Shoreditch’s start-up years are well documented in Made in Shoreditch’s own archive. From 2011 the site interviewed founders working around Old Street, then nicknamed Silicon Roundabout. Some of those companies are still trading in 2026.

2011: FundApps and BOOM! Cycle

Andrew White, chief executive of FundApps, told the site in September 2011 that the company was founded in 2010 to sell cloud software to hedge funds. “Shoreditch is the perfect microcosm in London,” he said, recommending TechHub and the Friday meet-up Silicon Drinkabout. FundApps is still an active London company in 2026, according to Companies House and its own website. Andrew White interview.

The same month the site spoke to Hillary Gilbert of BOOM! Cycle, and in December to Krisztian Borbely of Cycle Lab.

2013 and 2014: apps and marshmallows

Adil Abrar of The Amazings, Nicholas Katz of Splittable and Chris Tudor of MASSOLIT all spoke to the site. Andy Bell co-founded Boomf, which printed photos on marshmallows; Boomf still sells personalised marshmallows and cards in 2026.

2017: Velapp

David de Min described his app in a 2017 interview.
