Shoreditch has some of London’s best-known recording studios within a short walk of each other, from Strongroom on Curtain Road, where the Spice Girls recorded “Wannabe”, to rehearsal rooms and podcast studios on Hackney Road and around Old Street. This guide lists the studios in and around Shoreditch that are taking bookings in October 2026, with addresses and what each one is best for.
Every studio below was checked against its own website or booking page in October 2026. Several studios listed in the previous version of this guide have been removed: Ten87 is in Tottenham rather than Shoreditch, Pirate Studios has no Shoreditch site (its nearest are in Dalston and Hackney Wick), and others could not be confirmed as still trading at a Shoreditch address.
Strongroom
120-124 Curtain Road, London EC2A 3SQ
Strongroom was founded in 1984 by Richard Boote as a single studio and has grown into a complex of four recording rooms, Studios 1 to 4, with an engineer included in bookings. A blue plaque outside marks the spot where the Spice Girls recorded “Wannabe”, which came out in 1996. The Strongroom Bar in the same courtyard is open to the public. Made in Shoreditch interviewed the musician Ayse Deniz at Strongroom in 2012.
Best for: bands and artists who want a full-size room and an engineer.
The Premises
209 Hackney Road, London E2 8JL (entrance on Dawson Street)
The Premises has eight rehearsal rooms open from 9.30am to 11pm, alongside recording studios that are booked through the studio group Miloco. Miloco describes it as the world’s first solar-powered recording studio.
Best for: bands who need to rehearse and record in the same building.
Shoreditch Recording Works
Unit 21F, Perseverance Works, 25 Hackney Road, London E2 7NX
A Miloco-listed studio in Perseverance Works, the cluster of workshops at the bottom of Hackney Road. Bookings are handled through Miloco, which manages a number of London studios.
Best for: producers and artists booking through Miloco’s network.
Hackney Road Studios
270 Hackney Road, London E2 7SJ
An independent studio known for analogue recording. Studio 2 is built around a vintage Neve 66 mixing console.
Best for: bands and producers who want an analogue sound.
Premiere Podcast Studios
2-20 Scrutton Street, London EC2A 4RX
A podcast and video studio near Old Street, with sessions from £120 an hour plus VAT, including an engineer.
Best for: podcasts and video interviews.
Outset Studio
Unit G05, 37 Cremer Street, London E2 8HD
A studio on Cremer Street, near Hoxton station, offering audio sessions from £84 an hour and video from £108 an hour.
Best for: podcasts, voiceovers and small video shoots on a budget.
Vocal recording and voiceovers
Searches for vocal recording in London often lead to large studios in the West End. For vocals, voiceovers and podcasts in East London, Premiere Podcast Studios and Outset Studio both offer engineer-led sessions by the hour, while Strongroom suits artists who want a full studio and engineer.
Choosing a studio
- Know what you need. A podcast needs a quiet room and good microphones. A band needs a live room and someone to engineer it.
- Check whether an engineer is included. Strongroom and Premiere Podcast Studios include one. Some rehearsal rooms are self-run.
- Book ahead for weekends. Evening and weekend slots go first.
