2000 AD, the weekly British science fiction comic that launched Judge Dredd, will mark its 50th anniversary with a two-day event at Protein Studios in Shoreditch on Saturday 6 and Sunday 7 March 2027.

Rebellion, which publishes the comic, announced the event on 22 October. It promises programming, signings, exclusive merchandise and appearances by writers, artists and editors from across the comic’s history. The guests will be named in the coming weeks.

“We are delighted to be celebrating 50 years of the galaxy’s greatest comic,” said Jason Kingsley, Rebellion’s chief executive and co-founder. “We have been the custodians of this cherished British cultural icon for over half of its life, which means a great deal to us.”

How to get tickets

Current 2000 AD subscribers will receive a single-use code by email on Tuesday 27 October. Each code buys up to two early bird tickets, which go on sale at 6pm on Thursday 29 October. The early bird allocation is limited.

Standard day tickets go on general sale at 6pm on Thursday 5 November. The announcement does not give ticket prices.

Fifty years of the comic

2000 AD first appeared in 1977, under its founding editor and writer Pat Mills. Judge Dredd, created by John Wagner and Carlos Ezquerra, has since been the subject of two feature films.

The comic gave early work to Alan Moore, Dave Gibbons, Brian Bolland, Grant Morrison, Garth Ennis and Mark Millar, among others. Bleeding Cool described the March weekend as a follow-up to the gathering held for the comic’s 40th anniversary.

“It’s an incredible achievement for a weekly British sci-fi anthology to still be here five decades on,” said Matt Smith, who has edited 2000 AD for 26 years.

Protein Studios is a warehouse event space at 31 New Inn Yard in Shoreditch. Geek Native puts it at about 13,000 sq ft, with room for about 1,000 people.
