Tattu, the modern Chinese restaurant group, is opening a floating restaurant at Canary Wharf on Thursday 12 November, Hot Dinners reports. It takes over the floating site at 5 Water Street that used to be Marceline.
Tattu calls it its second London location. The group’s own site says only that it opens in November, and its Canary Wharf page already takes bookings. Its other restaurants are in Manchester, Leeds, Birmingham, Edinburgh and Dubai.
Four dragons
The design, by Studio WYZE, takes its cue from the historic floating restaurants of China, with lanterns and neon signs on the outside reflecting on the water, Canary Wharf Group said when the deal was announced in April. Inside, the space is split into four areas named after dragons from maritime myth.
The White Dragon is the double-height Grand Hall and main dining room, with light timber, purple lacquer and an onyx sushi counter. It leads into the Red Dragon cocktail bar, with arches shaped like dragon scales. Upstairs, the Black Dragon mezzanine is done in ebony and gold, and the Azure Dragon private dining room has a wave-shaped ceiling.
The food
The menu mixes Japanese and Chinese cooking. Canary Wharf Group named the chefs in April as Eugene Papadimitriou, Tattu’s global executive chef, who previously ran its London kitchen, and chef de cuisine David Pang, who has worked for Rosewood and Hakkasan.
A Saturday brunch, the Black Dragon Brunch, starts at Canary Wharf on Saturday 14 November. It is served in three waves of sharing dishes with cocktails, wine and spirits, from £55 a head, according to Tattu.
