Swiss Butter, the steakhouse chain that started in Beirut, is opening a restaurant on Bethnal Green Road in Shoreditch. Work has started on 36 Bethnal Green Road, a former falafel shop across the road from the Knave of Clubs pub, Hot Dinners reported on 4 November after a reader spotted the fit-out.
No opening date has been given. Swiss Butter told Hot Dinners the Shoreditch opening was still some way off, and a company announcement carried by London Daily News said it was expected to open before the end of 2026.
South Kensington first
Before that, its second UK restaurant opens at 128 Gloucester Road in South Kensington, taking its first diners on Saturday 7 November ahead of an official launch in December. It is the brand’s 22nd restaurant worldwide, according to London Daily News, and will open from noon to midnight Monday to Saturday and noon to 11pm on Sunday. Swiss Butter opened in Paris, on Rue du Faubourg Montmartre, in October.
What it serves
The menu is built around one dish: beef, chicken or salmon with fries, salad and the house butter sauce, whose recipe the company keeps secret. Hot Dinners compares the format to Le Relais de Venise l’Entrecôte, and says the restaurants also serve baguette and a short dessert list of pain perdu or molten chocolate cake. Swiss Butter has always been walk-in only, which explains the queues outside its first London restaurant, Hot Dinners said.
The brand was founded by Eddy Massaad, and Propel, the hospitality trade publication, gives the founding year as 2017. Its first UK restaurant opened at 114-118 Southampton Row in Holborn in August 2023. The Shoreditch opening will be its third in London.
