MUBI Fest London, the streaming and distribution company’s first film festival in the capital, runs from Friday 13 to Sunday 15 November at Hackney Picturehouse on Mare Street. Movie Marker carried the full weekend programme on 5 November; Time Out listed the festival earlier and Love London Love Culture reported the dates on 1 November.

The weekend mixes early screenings of MUBI releases, older titles and live events. There is a temporary MUBI Library of the company’s magazines and books, free shorts programmes, and Caribbean food from Original Flava at the cinema, Movie Marker said. The festival is for ages 18 and over. Tickets are sold only on DICE; none will be sold at the venue. Screening prices on DICE start at £12 to £14. Seats are unreserved.

Friday 13 November

The opening film is Rose, with Sandra Huller, one of its first UK screenings, followed by a Q&A with director Markus Schleinzer. Also on the bill are a 4K restoration of Donnie Darko (2001) for its 25th anniversary, a live Evolution of Horror podcast on adolescence, and Nicolas Winding Refn’s Drive (2011), followed by a live music night put on with Crack Magazine.

Saturday 14 November

Previews include Andrey Zvyagintsev’s Minotaur, this year’s Cannes Grand Prix winner, with the London Review of Books, and Lukas Dhont’s First World War romance Coward, with a Q&A with co-screenwriter Angelo Tijssens and actors Valentin Campagne and Emmanuel Macchia. Other titles include Sophy Romvari’s Blue Heron, Park Chan-wook’s The Handmaiden (2016), Horace Ove’s Pressure (1976) with a panel on Black British cinema, Diego Cespedes’ The Mysterious Gaze of the Flamingo, Jack Hazan’s A Bigger Splash (1973) and Michael Patrick Jann’s Drop Dead Gorgeous (1999).

Sunday 15 November

Andrew Haigh introduces a preview of A Long Winter. Paul Thomas Anderson’s Cameron Winter at Carnegie Hall, shot on 35mm and 16mm, also plays. Other Sunday titles include the London premiere of the Sundance-winning documentary Nuisance Bear, with filmmaker Jack Weisman and producer Teddy Leifer; Frederick Wiseman’s The Store (1984); and a centenary screening of Nosferatu with a live soundtrack curated by Danny L Harle.
