Shoreditch is better known for cocktail bars and clubs than for pubs, but the streets around it still have some of East London’s best traditional boozers. This guide covers eight, from a Young’s pub with a covered garden on Redchurch Street to a cask ale house in Hoxton. Opening hours were checked in October 2026 and can change.
For late nights, see the Shoreditch nightlife guide. For pubs that show the match, see the guide to football pubs in Shoreditch.
Pubs with beer gardens
The Owl & Pussycat
34 Redchurch Street, E2 7DP. Monday 11am to 11pm, Tuesday to Saturday 11am to midnight, Sunday 11am to 11pm.
The Owl & Pussycat is a large Young’s pub with an open fire inside and a garden at the back. The garden has a cover and heaters, so it stays open in autumn and winter. It is dog-friendly and does not take bookings. Food is served from noon to 10pm, and until 8pm on Sundays.
The Crown & Shuttle
226 Shoreditch High Street, E1 6PJ. Monday 4pm to 11pm, Tuesday and Wednesday noon to 11pm, Thursday and Friday noon to midnight, Saturday noon to 1am, Sunday noon to 9pm.
The Crown & Shuttle has one of the bigger gardens on Shoreditch High Street, behind the pub. The garden closes at 10.30pm, when drinkers are asked to move inside. Food is served at lunchtime from Tuesday to Friday, 12pm to 3pm.
The Carpenter’s Arms
73 Cheshire Street, E2 6EG. Monday to Thursday 3pm to 11pm, Friday and Saturday noon to midnight, Sunday noon to 11pm.
The Carpenter’s Arms is a small corner pub at the quiet end of Cheshire Street, off Brick Lane. It has an enclosed beer garden at the back.
Sunday roasts
The Owl & Pussycat serves roasts every Sunday, with Angus rump of beef at £23, harissa chicken at £21 and a wild mushroom pie at £18 on its current menu. A whole roast chicken for sharing costs £40. Booking is recommended on Sundays.
The Royal Oak
73 Columbia Road, E2 7RG.
The Royal Oak sits on Columbia Road, so it is busiest on Sundays when the flower market is on. It serves a Sunday roast every week and is a natural stop after the market. See the guide to Columbia Road flower market for market times.
Real ale and traditional pubs
The Wenlock Arms
26 Wenlock Road, N1 7TA. Closed Monday. Tuesday and Wednesday 4pm to 11pm, Thursday noon to midnight, Friday and Saturday noon to 1am, Sunday noon to 10pm.
The Wenlock Arms is a backstreet pub between Hoxton and Angel that CAMRA lists as a real ale pub with live jazz. It was saved from redevelopment after a local campaign and is one of the best places in the area for cask beer.
The Pride of Spitalfields
3 Heneage Street, E1 5LJ.
The Pride of Spitalfields is a small free house just off Brick Lane. CAMRA lists four regular hand pumps and one changing cask, which recent listings show as Fuller’s ESB and London Pride, Sharp’s Doom Bar and a beer from Five Points.
The Golden Heart
110 Commercial Street, E1 6LZ. Monday to Saturday 11am to 11pm, Sunday noon to 10.30pm.
The Golden Heart, opposite Old Spitalfields Market, is listed by CAMRA for its interwar interior. It is a plain, traditional pub rather than a food pub.
The Bricklayer’s Arms
63 Charlotte Road, EC2A 3PE. Monday to Saturday 11am to 11pm.
The Bricklayer’s Arms is a corner pub in the grid of streets south of Old Street. CAMRA lists it for cask ales. Sunday hours differ between listings, so check before a Sunday visit.
