Max and Noel Venning, the brothers behind the Three Sheets cocktail bars, will open Berryman’s, a martini, wine and oyster bar at 508 Kingsland Road in Dalston, on Friday 13 November.
The bar sits two doors from the original Three Sheets, which the brothers opened in 2016, in the unit that was Dead Good Coffee. It holds 20 people, all standing, and takes walk-ins only, with a waiting list at the door and no reservations.
Named after their mother
Berryman is the brothers’ mother’s maiden name, and the menu nods to her Cornish roots with oysters from Cornwall. The opening comes as Three Sheets marks its tenth year.
Restaurant Online describes the drinks as more traditional in style than at the Three Sheets bars. The list runs to a rotating selection of martinis, including a Vesper and a white Cosmopolitan with gooseberry, and a wine list that changes regularly.
What is on the menu
Head chef Ethan Pack, who worked his way up in the kitchen at Claridge’s, has written a menu of bar snacks that can be eaten standing up without cutlery. Oysters come with strawberry mignonette, gherkin granita, Kashmiri and clementine ponzu, or a house hot sauce.
There are dirty martini crisps, olive oil crisps seasoned with juniper, kosseret tea, coriander seed and olive powder. Other plates take their lead from bars in Spain and northern Italy: 18-month Comté with quince, coppa di Parma, giardiniera pickles and a bikini sandwich of jamón, ‘nduja, Manchego and Gouda. Dessert is fior di latte ice cream with olive oil and balsamic vinegar.
The Three Sheets group
After the Dalston bar in 2016, the Vennings opened Little Mercies in Crouch End in 2018 and a second Three Sheets in Soho in 2024. Berryman’s is their fourth site.
