Make Art or Die Trying is a book by the British artist Stuart Semple, published by Rockport Publishers, part of the Quarto Group, in June 2024. Its full title is Make Art or Die Trying: The Only Art Book You’ll Ever Need If You Want to Make Art That Changes the World.

What the book covers

The book is part memoir and part manifesto. It mixes Semple’s own story with art history and practical creative exercises, and argues that making art does not depend on training or background.

“I don’t care where you grew up, if you’ve been to art school, if you have a day job, if you’re in your teens or your nineties. Being an artist is possible for you right now. Everyone is an artist; every single human has a spark of creativity inside them.”
